In the same way, when the mind is still, you can see the "Self", this is called 'Yoga'."-The Sivananda Yoga Vedanta centers

Yoga means Union. Not just union between the mind, body and spirit, but between one's individual consciousness and the Universal Consciousness. Union with the Supreme Reality, The Divine. Yoga refers to a certain state of consciousness as well as to methods that help one reach that goal or state of union with The Divine.
I will be teaching methods that help one reach that goal or state of union with The Divine. Yoga asanas (postures and excersises), pranayama (yogic breathing excersises), kirtahn (chanting and prayer), and meditation.
Recognising all four paths of Yoga:
-Karma Yoga (The Yoga of action, the path of selfless service)
-Bhakti Yoga (The Yoga of Devotion)
-Raja Yoga (The Yoga of Mind Control, the scientific approach)
-Jnana Yoga (The Yoga of knowledge, the philosohpical approach)
Swami Sivananda taught that every human being possesses and identifies with each of these elements: Intellect, heart, body and mind. He therefore advocated everyone to practice certain techniques from each path. This came to be known as the Yoga of Synthesis. He also taught that in accordance with individual temperament and taste one can emphasize the practice of certain Yogas over others.
My classes will represent these principles:
Serve, Love, Give, Purify, Meditate, Realize.

-avoid eating meals atleast 2 hours before class
-please provide your own mat, and a flat blanket if possible
-wear comfortable clothing that provides easy movement

The Universal Prayer

The Universal Prayer:
Oh Adorable Lord of Mercy and Love!
Salutations and prostrations unto thee.
Thou art omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient.
Thou art Satchidananda.
Thou art existence, knowledge and bliss absolute.
Thou art the Indweller of all beings.

Grant us an understanding heart,
equal vision, balanced mind,
faith devotion and wisdom.
Grant us the inner spiritual strength
to resist temptation and to control the mind.
Free us from egoism, lust, anger, greed, hatred and jealousy.
Fill our hearts with divine virtues.

Let us behold Thee in all these names and forms.
Let us serve Thee in all these names and forms.
Let us ever remember Thee.
Let us ever sing Thy glories.
Let Thy name be ever on our lips.
Let us abide in Thee for ever and ever.
-Swami Sivananda

This is a prayer very precious to my heart. This is the prayer of all true faiths and "religions".
Today religion is a mask for many people. people call themselves by names of so many religions, especially the "christians" and "catholics" and "baptists" and on and on. this world, wich is but only one little microscopic spec in the universe, is in a very dark age.
a few thoughts on the bible: ... all of my life growing up as a child in the lower suburbian american society, my parents made me go to 'church' with them, and when i began home schooling when i was about 11 or 12, i had to learn through a "christian" schooling program. the scriptures were all taught, translated LITERALLY. so the bible was like this big violent fairy tale. i really didn't learn anything.
children are SCARED into believing something.
The bible is a code. just like all the other ancient holy texts. it's message is very simple.
okay, i could go on about this forever.

so how can we make this world a better place? we can do our best to not contribute to the evil going on in the world. and support the good things. we can change the world with our own positive thoughts and energies. we can do all the small things we can to make possitive changes in other peoples lives. we can teach and serve others with a pure heart.
if possible, it would be one of the most beneficial things for the whole world if we could all rise up against the greedy force running the world.
Serve, Love, Give, Purify, Meditate, Realize. we are all ONE.

Om Namah Shivaya.

I am now well on my way to becoming a Hatha Yoga instructor. My Iyanger/Ashtanga instructor has offered to take me in as an 'apprentice' of sorts. I will be able to teach certain parts of classes and even in time, full classes (under supervision). and then once I am 18 I can teach classes on my own. She gave me a copy of "the yoga journal" (a yoga magazine) which has a ton of information on where I can become certified, and expand in my learning.

journying into the study of ayurveda

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spiritual Ayurveda
"Around 1500 B.C. the book, the Charak Samhita discussed these spiritual principles. It said that even if Ayurvedic doctors had a complete knowledge of Ayurveda but could not reach the inner Self or soul of the patient, they would not be effective healers. Furthermore, if the practitioner were more concerned with fame and fortune, and not with spiritual development (Self-Realization), they would not be effective healers.
To understand the spiritual nature of Ayurveda, we must know something about the Vedic roots of philosophy, spirituality, and universal religion. According to the ancient Vedic scriptures of India there is a goal to life. We are not simply born, to live, and then to die without some meaning or purpose. Albert Einstein reflected this idea when he said God does not play dice with the universe. Order and reason exist in life. According to Vedic philosophy life is Divine and the goal of life is to realize our inner Divine nature. Ayurvedically speaking the more a person realizes their Divine nature the healthier they are. Thus it is the responsibility of the Ayurvedic doctor to inspire or help awaken the patient to their own inner Divine nature. Positive thinking or love is the best medicine. ..."
The Ayurvedic Encyclopedia by Swami Sada Shiva Tirtha, page 8.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ayurveda,
literally, "the science of life," is the ancient Indian art and science of healing and rejuvenation through the use of natural herbs, roots and minerals. It is said that over 3000 years ago, Nature revealed the curative and therapeutic properties of each tree, plant, herb, root and flower to a great sage, Dhanwantari, as he sat in deep meditation in the midst of a forest. Ancient Rishis and sages continued to learn of the beneficial link between the vegetable, mineral and human worlds, and discovered that bodily health comes from cultivating a harmonious balance of Nature's three subtle energies, or doshas: vata, pitta and kapha, which are present in all life and matter. The doshas have certain qualities or attributes which characterize their effects on the human body. The individual remains healthy as long as these elements are in a state of equilibrium. But if this equilibrium is disturbed beyond a point, the body succumbs to disease and decay.
